Necklace: 1940s Taxco Gerardo Lopez

Necklace: 1940s Taxco Gerardo Lopez

$280.00

A Gerardo Lopez necklace from the late 1940’s that demonstrates the quality silversmithing that has been coming out of Taxco for generations.

Lopez was a well respected artist with a highly regarded jewelry store that was noted to be one of the best to visit in the guidebooks. He had an elegant creative style that was influenced by colonial Spain, Art Nouveau, and the natural world. He was recognized for his beads and iconic motifs of swirls, ocean imagery, warriors, and indigenous temple art.

His lines are often accented by deep oxidation highlighting softly gleaming surfaces of domes, beads, fronds and teardrops. The silver jewelry creations designed by Lopez (and now his son, artisan Julio César López Heydeck) is known as hollowware that is sterling silver—or better, and can be very heavy. Designs are often strong and bold, yet sometimes, surprisingly, delicate.

This necklace sits beautifully and comfortably. It is lighter than other Taxco options, which makes for an even easier wear. It is flexible and contours your neckline. It’s an elegant yet bold design that always looks stunning on.
